Four years
It's funny how time moves, slow and thick when you're waiting for the hammer to fall, gone in a breath after it does.
So much has happened in four years - so much we thought we'd do together, and also a few things we're glad he doesn't have to see.
Nika and I spent the morning with our traditional apple cider donut picnic and petals at his spot. It's like that game I used to play with daisies - "he loves me, he loves me not" - except he loved everything, so we drop a petal for each of his favorites - and there are so many.
But there are also so many things he didn't get a chance to love:
the 50th state; two college graduations; Nika's first day of high school; a new puppy; London, Paris and especially Abbey Road; Noah's first job; Kaia's big move to Loyola for her doctorate; Nika's continued work for the Conquer Cancer Foundation; Kaia's Aquatennial experience; a return trip to Casey Key; watching Cole and Case play sports; so many holidays; and countless little moments every day.
On the flip side, there are a few things I'm glad he didn't have to see.
Thank you all for your sweet rememberences of him and for reaching out to us that day. He loved you all so much. So do we.
