the great american road trip take 3 - mm to missouri

Go ahead, say it. I know you're thinking it, so we might as well get it over with. What else would you say about cramming ourselves, one pre-teen, a fourth grader and a wiggly one year old into our van for a 14 day road trip? "You guys are morons."

You could be right.

Punk and Kooka are seasoned travelers, but Yoda may give us a run for our money.

We kicked off the adventure with a 6:30 am wake-up call. After a drive-thru breakfast, we were headed south. If you don't count the stop for gas in Waterloo (and who would?), our first stop was a tail-gated lunch in the parking lot of the Planet X in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

If you're not familiar with Planet X, you're not missing much, except possibly a case of gangrene. The duckpin bowling machine, arcade games and bouncy castle are circa 1987. All of the above are held together with copious amounts of duct tape and chewing gum. Thankfully, none of our kids have ever let the threat of lockjaw get in the way of adventure, so a good time was had by all.

Another few hours landed us in Troy, Missouri, home of the Luxury Inn. And yes we know - the name should have been a dead giveaway, sort of like buying shampoo at the dollar store when the label says, "this shampoo make beautiful hairs for you" - but whatever - after 8 hours in the car, we were ready to get out. Tomorrow we head to St. Louis and Memphis.

We're trying to blog from the iPad during this trip. It's new for us, so it. Could be tricky, but we'll do our best to keep you posted!
